When Evelyn and Charlie married, she was sixteen and he wastwenty-three. They met at church in Covington. They got married inEvelyn's home on Elm Street in Ludlow. He was a fireman on the SouthernRailroad and later became an engineer. On his days off he and Evelynusually went fishing. Evelyn was a good cook and they ate the fish theycaught. "George T. Colyar's Company E. of the Third Regiment,Tennessec VolunteerInfantry, commanded by Col. B. F. Cheathrun. This company, consisting of115 men, rank and file, left Winchester in September, 1847. and wasmustered into the United States service near Nashville ahout October 10,1847, and left
for Mexico in the same month. Capt. Colyar died January 8, 1848, in thecity of Mexico.
His remains were sent to his'home in Winchester."
His brother Arthur St. Clair was sent to obtain his remains from south.

She was never able to establish for sure if Stephenand Richard were James' sons and therefore cousins of her grandfather,John Colyer, Jr. but they often visited their family.

Came to Madison Co. Ky. before 1792. He is listed in that year as acitizen of Madison Co. Two years later in May and June of 1794 he wassent to the frontiers of Lincoln Co. to guard against Indians and for twomonths of service he was paid a sum slightly more than $10 ascompensation. the nuncupative will of James was proved, December 22, 1805in Madison Co., Ky. the will was committed to writing by James Colyer,Jr. and showed money deposited for the benefit of his children. Highway Robbery
On Saturday night the 13th inst., while James L. Colyer was returning tohis
home in the upper part of our county, from Mount Vernon, was attacked byfour
men in disguise coming from the bushes on the side of the public roadwith
drawn weapons, who stopped his horse and first demanded his arms, Colyer,
although a brave man, seeing that he was overpowered gave up his pistolwhich
was returned to him after the robbers had drawn the loads; they thendemanded
his money which hthey got, amounting to the sum of $100, and also hiswatch,
which they examined and threw against a tree, it being of small value.
Mr. Colyer has been for some time past a deputy Sheriff of our county, isa
clever gentleman and makes a clever and vigilant officer.
